TRAGGEDY: Kano State Records Over 20 High Profile Deaths In 24hrs
Tragedy struck again in Kano State yesterday as about 23 prominent sons and daughters of the state died within 24 hours from a yet to be identified ailment.
The cause of death is not yet known, but it might not be unrelated to the novel coronavirus outbreak in the state.
Among those who passed on yesterday was Professor of Economics and former chairman of National Economic Intelligence Committee, Ibrahim Ayagi, who died at the age of 80. The CEO of Hassan Gwarzo School was said to have been ill for some time.
Other high-profile individuals who have died within the period include Adamu Isyaku Dal, former executive secretary, SUBEB; Salisu Lado, Nene Umma, Garba Sarki Fagge, and the mother of renounced businessman, Ado Gwanja.
The list of the dead also includes Aliyu Umar Dikko, a professor in the department of Physiology, Bayero University, Kano, and Nasiru Maikano Bichi, secretary, Students Affairs, North West University, Kano.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 testing laboratory in Kano state has remained shut for the past three days following reported lack of testing materials.
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Kano has recorded 73 COVID-19 infections as of April 24.
On Wednesday, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje disclosed that the state had recorded only one COVID-19 death.
“You know that there is a lot of fake news going around and we have already started arresting all those who are peddling such rumours.
“The death recorded from coronavirus is only one and the NCDC is aware of that,” Ganduje said.
