Tokyo 2020: Super Falcons to Miss Out of Olympics
Nigeria’s Super Falcons crashed out of the women’s football event of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Monday, October 7, after playing out a 1-1 draw with Cote d’ Ivoire at the Agege Stadium Lagos.
After a goalless draw in the first leg of the third round of the 2020 CAF Women’s Olympic Qualifiers, the Super Falcons needed to outscore Cote d’Ivoire or at least stop the visitors from scoring due to the away goal rule.
The visitors set the tone of what is to come with early charge on their host and went ahead in the 12th minute as Khapo Nina fired the visitors into the lead via a free kick that beats goalkeeper Nnadozie hands down.
Ange N’guessan had a decent opportunity to double the Ivorians lead minutes after the opener, but she failed to score, leaving scores at 1-0.
Two minutes later, Oshoala scored to bring Nigeria level into the break.
In the second stanza, Falcons made several efforts to get the winner but could not convert the chances.
It however ended 1-1 at the Agege Township Stadium in Lagos.
