Simona Halep Beats 8-time Wimbledon Champion, Serena Williams in Final
Simona Halep won her first Wimbledon title and crushed Serena Williams’ latest bid for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title with a devastating 56-minute display of athleticism.
The 27-year-old from Romania had been 0-3 against Williams in majors prior to Saturday’s 6-2, 6-2 victory.
It’s Simona Halep’s second Grand Slam title after her 2018 French Open success.
Williams, 37, had been vying to win her 24th career major, but failed in her third attempt in a final to tie Margaret Court’s record for the most overall Grand Slam singles titles.
“She played out of her mind, it was a little bit deer in the headlights for me,” Williams said.
Halep played a tighter game overall, committing just three unforced errors compared to Williams’ 25.
