Premier League: Liverpool 4-1 Norwich (Watch All Goals)
Liverpool raised the curtain on the new Premier League season with a 4-1 thrashing of newly-promoted Norwich at Anfield on Friday.
Norwich captain Grant Hanley scored the opening goal of the top-flight season when he sliced Divock Origi’s cross into his own net.
Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk increased the tally within the opening 30 minutes.
Liverpool lost Alisson to injury after he slipped while taking a goal kick as half-time approached, handing summer signing Adrian an early taste of first-team action. And the Spaniard had his first goal to celebrate not long after as Origi got in on the act, heading Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross beyond Krul.
Teemu Pukki, who led the Championship with 29 goals last season, gave the visiting support reason to cheer just past the hour mark with a clinical finish from an inch-perfect Emiliano Buendía pass to reduce the deficit to three.
They might have won by a more handsome margin as Tim Krul palmed Origi’s attempt onto the bar after making a brilliant save to keep out Firmino’s ferocious volley. Krul also did well to keep out Alexander-Arnold’s late free-kick.
