Nigeria Professional Football League: MFM, Abia Warriors Play Out Goalless Draw
With both team battling relegation in the Nigeria Professional Football League , MFM FC and Abia Warriors fought out a goalless draw on Monday morning.
Following heavy downpour in Lagos that rendered the Agege Stadium pitch unplayable the previous day. In the end, there were no cheers, especially for the fans of MFM FC, who must be wondering where their early season form disappeared to.
Abia Warriors started the match brightly when striker, Bolaji Sakin took the first two shots at goal within the first seven minutes. The first, a poorly directed free kick; the other had its sting nullified when it deflected off a teammate.
That was followed by Michael Olaha unleashing a pile driver in the 20th minute that went just inches of the MFM post, it was arguably the best shot of the match.
MFM FC did a lot of building up their attacking play from deep,They came close to scoring in the first half when a needless back pass by Abia Warriros defender, Kabiru Ayinde, which caught his goalkeeper, Chinedu Anozie, unaware. The ball rolled out close to the far post to spare his blushes.
An offside call denied MFM FC forward, Austine Ogunye, when he had the ball in the net before Sikiru Olatunbosun fluffed the home team’s best chance of the match, turning too hurriedly from an over the top pass from substitute Chukwuka Onuwa before failing to hit target.
The frustrations of the home crowd boiled over when with 16 minutes left on the clock, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi got a loud jeer after needlessly booting a shot high and wide from 20 yards, when a pass looked the better option.
