Manchester United 2-2 Southampton: Late Goal Denies United Move Into Top Four
Manchester United missed the chance to go third in the Premier League as a last-gasp Michael Obafemi equaliser secured Southampton a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Monday.
After big defeats for Chelsea and Leicester at the weekend, Manchester United were presented with the perfect opportunity to move into the Champions League places, but went behind early on when Stuart Armstrong rifled home (12).
United led 2-1 for 73 minutes after Marcus Rashford had slotted home an equaliser and Anthony Martial fired a superb second three minutes later.
They had chances to increase their lead but failed to take them, and Obafemi scored from close range right near the end.
United remain fifth with three games left despite defeats for rivals Chelsea and Leicester over the weekend – but will still qualify for the Champions League if they win their last three games, as they travel to the King Power Stadium on the final day of the season.
