LA Galaxy 3-2 Los Angeles FC: Zlatan Ibrahimovic Backs up ‘Best by Far’ in MLS Claim With Perfect Hat-Trick
When you claim you’re “like a Ferrari” in a league full of “Fiats” you’d better back it up.
Prior to the game, Ibrahimovic said he still believed he was the best player in MLS by far over LAFC’s Carlos Vela — even though the latter leads the league in goals scored.
Just four minutes had gone when LAFC were awarded a penalty after Carlos Vela had been brought down by goalkeeper David Bingham. Former Arsenal striker Vela stepped up himself to put the visitors ahead with his 20th goal in 20 league games.
Ibrahimovic then gave the Galaxy the lead in the 56th minute when he rose above Jordan Harvey to head Diego Polenta’s cross into the back of the net.
The former Sweden international produced another moment of brilliance in the 70th minute, picking up a nice flicked-on heel pass from Alvarez, cutting to his left and blasting a shot past Miller to complete his hat trick and put the game away for the Galaxy.
Vela – the fastest player to reach 20 goals in a season in MLS history – grabbed his second of the evening with 97 minutes on the clock, but it was too little too late as LA Galaxy held on to secure derby bragging rights.
