Kano Assembly: Lawmakers Passes Bill For Creation of Four Emirate Councils
The Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday amended the Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs law, paving the way for the decentralisation of the Kano Emirate Council.
This follows the approval of the amendment of the local government and chieftaincy affairs law by the lawmakers, during their sitting on Wednesday.
There has been report that Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje relaunched plans to remove Muhammad Sanusi II as the emir of Kano.
The new Bill provides for rotational chairmanship of the state council of traditional rulers among the emirs.
The speaker of the House, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, during plenary read a letter brought to the house for consideration by Ibrahim Salisu and others, requesting the House to start a move for creating four additional emirates in the state.
Abdullahi Ganduje, the state governor has vowed to assent to the bill.
