#JapaneseGP: Valtteri Bottas Claims Victory as Mercedes Win Constructors’ Title
Valtteri Bottas won the Japanese Grand Prix this morning to close the gap on Lewis Hamilton to 64 points in the Drivers’ Championship.
The result sealed the constructors’ title with four races to go and, while Hamilton is not quite world champion yet, only Bottas can catch him.
Ferrari’s front-row lockout, achieved four hours earlier on F1’s Super Sunday at Suzuka after Typhoon Hagibis cancelled Saturday’s programme, gave way to only second for Sebastian Vettel and sixth for Charles Leclerc, who collided with Max Verstappen on the first lap.
Mercedes’ Hamilton and Bottas are in a two-horse race heading into the final four races of the season.
And the Brit is ready to fight for his sixth world title.
“It makes no difference because we have been racing more freely since the start of the year,” Hamilton said.
“For sure [it will be a hard fight].”
