Manchester United have had a bid for Jadon Sancho worth up to £91.3m (€100m) rejected by Borussia Dortmund.

The offer was for an initial £73m, rising to up to £91.3m, which fell short of Dortmund’s £108m valuation.

Sancho has not flown with the rest of the Dortmund squad for the German Super Cup in Munich against Bayern due to a “respiratory infection”. He has tested negative for Covid-19.

Almost straight after the news he wasn’t travelling, news then broke that the United bid was rejected.

Dortmund are still holding out for the €120m, so United are €20m shy.

Dortmund captain Marco Reus believes Sancho will stay in Germany for another year.

Asked about rumours that the 20-year-old will not leave, Reus said: “For us players that was great news.

“We all were happy that he will be with us for one more year because he delivers assists and goals, so we get points.

“If he gets as big as [Lionel] Messi or [Cristiano] Ronaldo, we will see.

“He needs time, experience and it will be important how he manages the times when things don’t go so well. But he has the confidence and the quality.”
