#Itafaji: Death Toll Increases After Building Collapse in Lagos
More people have died after being taken to hospital in the wake of the collapse of a building housing a school in the Nigerian city of Lagos, said an emergency agency official on Thursday.
“We worked through the night and one body was recovered,” the south-west coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, told Agence France-Presse on Thursday.
Residents said around 100 children had attended the nursery and primary school, housed on the top levels of the building which collapsed on Wednesday in the Ita-faji area of the Lagos island district in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
Joshua Yang, of the Lagos state fire service, said the nursery area of the building had now been cleared.
“There are no persons left in the rubble,” he told the TVC News channel.
The proprietress of the school, Ohen Nursery and Primary School has also been confirmed dead.
