Help! My Boss says I must Open My Legs Before I get Promoted (Life Tales)

My name is Nkechi, a banker who recently got married. For over 6 years I have been giving my best at one of the new generation banks where I work.

I have served with dignity and honour for more than 6years and now it is time for promotions. A colleague very close to me was able to see the list of those penned down for promotion, according to her, my name is not on the list.

Another colleague called Bukky has barely put in 3 years and she  made the list of those who will be promoted. This news really troubled me for some days and when I could not bear it again, I walked into my boss’s office to get a proper explanation.

He first tried to deny Bukky was included, then when he finally agreed, he said my name was omitted because I have put in the years and have some experience but still lack some vial skills and things that needs to be done to merit promotion.

I was not sure what he was talking about, so i asked him what was left to be done, he paused a while, and after a few seconds, he asked me if i am ready to be promoted, I said yes, he asked if I was ready to do what it takes, I also said yes.

After a few minutes of my reply, he moved closer to my side of the divide in his office, I didn’t see anything coming, even when he placed his hands on my shoulders, I was uncomfortable but I did not panic.

With his hands on my shoulders, he bent a bit to meet my eyes, and he said:

“You are not a small girl, you know what to do”.

I pondered for a moment and asked him to be more specific and he said: “You have to open your legs to get promoted”. I beat off his palms which were heading towards my thighs by this time.

Immediately after brushing him off, I stood and left his office in composed anger just not to arouse attention of the other staff. Before I left his office that day, he told me that if I let it slip, then I would dfinitely lose my job.

In my desperation, I went to Bukky to share my experience, to my surprise, Bukky seemed disgusted at the fact that I turned down our boss’s advances, in fact, she said I just wasted a priceless opportunity.

Staring deep into my eyes, Bukky noted:

“Nobody holy pass”

At this point, it was clear to me she  had gone to open her legs to get promoted.

I tried telling my husband, but I could not speak for the fear of the unknown. I am not sure how he would react to such a story. For 6 months now, my husband has been out of job and it has been my duty to sustain the family.

There is an atmosphere of pressure at the office now, Bukky tends to be cutting me out, my boss keeps finding faults in the most trivial things.I am on the verge of being sacked.

For the first time in over 6 years, I recently got a query for being 10 mins late to a meeting, my world seem to be crumbling.

Please I am confused, what shall i do to save my job, it’s either I get promoted or I get fired. Should I go and open my legs?
