Starting the tie 3-1 down from the first leg, Esperance flipped the Caf Champions League final on its head and convincingly won 3-0 against their much-fancied Egyptian opposition.

Saad Bguir was the unlikely two-goal star as he had been a reserve for most of the African campaign and started in the second leg of the final only because Cameroonian Franck Kom was suspended.

The Tunisian giants were propelled to their third title by 24-year-old Saad Beguir and his midfield partner Anice Badri.

Bguir managed to score the first goal just before the half-time whistle when Al-Ahly appeared to be cruising to victory.

He added the second goal in the 53rd minute, Beguir won possession in midfield to set up a swift interchange of passes that concluded with Mohamed Ali Yacoubi banging in a perfectly weighted cross that Beguir rose unchallenged to head home, watched by the Ahly defenders who had been sucked out of position.

As the score stood at 2-0 in Tunisia, Esperance would’ve still won on the away goals rule but Badri made sure of the result with a third goal, coming in the 86th minute.

The Tunisian club, nicknamed ‘Blood and Gold’, have previously won the title in 1994 and 2011, and will represent Africa at the FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi in December.
