Eight Live Lost in Autocrash Along Lagos-Ibadan Highway
Eight persons died while 12 others were injured in an accident involving seven vehicles late night on Wednesday around Danco and Berger axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Mr Clement Oladele, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta on Thursday.
Oladele confirmed that the accident, which occurred around 7:56 p.m on the expressway, involved a Toyota bus marked LSR 560 XJ, Mazda bus marked XD 792 EZA , Toyota Sienna marked ABC 512 ZV and Toyota Camry marked APP 196 RQ.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Agency, Tunde Akinbiyi, who also confirmed the crash, said it involved three trucks and four cars. He said the tragedy happened due to speeding.
Mr Akinbiyi also added that the corpses and five of the injured victims were taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) while seven injured victims taken to FAMOBIS Hospital Lotto.
“The crash scene has been cordoned off, on the inbound lane of the expressway. The motoring public are advised to drive cautiously along the diversion route created by Julius Berger and avoid speeding beyond 50kmph on the stretch,” he said.
