Newly signed Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard has stressed that he is not a “Galactico” yet – but hopes to help the club back to their glory days.

The 28-year-old was unveiled in front of 50,000 Real fans at the Bernabeu on Thursday evening after undergoing his medical in Madrid and signing a five-year contract alongside president Florentino Perez.

“My dream ever since I was a child has been to play for Real Madrid,” he said.

Exiting the Blues, with whom he has played for since 2012, for a reported initial fee of £88.5m (€100m/$112m) , the 28-year-old is believed to be the most expensive transfer ever conducted by the club, exceeding that of Gareth Bale .

The Belgium international showed of his skills to the screaming Real fans and then pledged to help restore the club to former glories following a trophyless season at home and in Europe.

Later in a news conference, he said: “I’m going to try to become the best player in the world, but first I wanted to be in the best team in the world.

“I’m not a Galactico, but I’ll try to be, for now I’m Eden Hazard.”

“It’s true Real Madrid [has] won a lot of titles and [that] the last year hasn’t been so good. That happens in football.

“I hope to start a new cycle with the players who have won so much, that’s what I’m here for.”
