Don Waney’s CSO , Agulegbu, Killed In Delta

A notorious cultist and kidnap linchpin, Augustine Agulegbu, was on Wednesday shot dead by security operatives in Delta State.

The suspected criminal was killed on Wednesday, February 14, by soldiers who carried out the operation in conjunction with operatives of Department of State Service (DSS).

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Aminu Iliyasu.

He said Agulegbu was traced to his hide out at a location along New Sapele Road, Obiaruku in Ukwani Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State in the early hours of February, 14, 2018.

Iliyasu said Agulegbu was however shot in an encounter with the security operatives and died before reaching the hospital and his body taken to Port Harcourt and handed over to the Rivers State Police Command.

“In compliance with the Presidential directive to fish out and bring to justice the perpetrators of the heinous killings of 23 innocent residents of Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State, on 1st January 2018 by the notorious Don Waney criminal cult group, troops of 222 Battalion, 

“Nigerian Army in conjunction with operatives of the Department of State Service Rivers State Command tracked one of the members of the killer criminal gang, Austin Agulegbu the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to late Don Waney and the 6th in Command of the criminal gang.

“After a painstaking effort by the security agencies, Austin was traced to his hide out at a location along New Sapele Road, Obiaruku in Ukwani Local Government Area (LGA) in Delta State in the early hours of 14th February 2018”, Iliyasu said. 

The Chairman of ONELGA, Mr. Osi Olisa, confirmed the killing of Agulegbu, disclosing that the deceased’s corpse was displayed at the local government secretariat in Omoku.

Olisa expressed gratitude to Governor Nyesom Wike, the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army and the DSS for their commitment towards ensuring that peace returned to the area.

He said, “The once-bewildered people of ONELGA are beginning to lead a normal live once again. The return of peace may not have been possible without the commitment of our peace-loving Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike.

“We also appreciate all the security agencies, especially the Department of State Services and the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, for the killing of Don Waney’s CSO, Augustine Agulegbu, a.k.a. Nana.

“The crackdown on the chief security officer of the late Omoku gang leader, Johnson Igwedibia, a.k.a. Don Waney, is part of the ongoing efforts to cleanse ONELGA of all social vices.

“As a local government council, we shall continue to offer our best support to the Government of Rivers State and all the security agencies to make ONELGA safe for everyone.”
