Di Maria: My Real Madrid Relationship Has Ended, And Would Not Have A Problem Playing For Barcelona
Angel Di Maria reckons he could play for Barcelona despite his history with their La Liga rivals Real Madrid.
The Argentina international spent four years with Madrid from 2010 – the team his Paris Saint-Germain side face in the Champions League last-16 – winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey twice and the Champions League.
The winger has apparently always dreamed of lining up alongside Lionel Messi domestically, as the two play together for Argentina.
However, the 30-year-old did outline the one team from his homeland which he could never play for.
“My relationship with Madrid is finished because my cycle there ended,” he told So Foot.
“Frankly, I wouldn’t have a problem to play at Barca, to the contrary.
“The only club I couldn’t play for is Newell’s Old Boys because I am a fan of Rosario Central.”
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Di Maria was considered an alternative for Barcelona if they did not sign Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool in January.
Di Maria has played 26 times for PSG this season, scoring eight goals so far.
As well as reaching the last-16 of the Champions League, PSG are also 12 points clear at the summit of the French League.
