Again, Shiite Protesters Clash With Police In Abuja, Six Confirmed Dead
No fewer than six members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) are feared dead in a bloody clash between the Islamic sect and security forces on Monday in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The protesters are calling for the release of their leader El-Zakzaki, who has been in detention since 2015.
The fiasco, which took place within the precincts of the Federal Secretariat Complex, also left a journalist with a popular TV station battling for his life after he was hit by a stray bullet.
Policemen who cordoned off the road leading to the National Assembly and the three arms zone disrupted the protest by the Shiites, firing teargas to disperse the crowd.
