2019 U23 AFCON: Nigeria 3-1 Zambia (Watch All Goals)
Nigeria secured their first win at the Africa U23 Cup of Nations with a 3-1 victory over Zambia in their second Group B game.
After a 1-0 loss to Cote d’Ivoire, Liverpool player Taiwo Awoniyi and Turkey-based midfielder Azubuike Okechukwu joined the Nigerian team in Egypt to give them a boost.
The Chipolopolo of Zambia almost dominated the game in the early part of the first half and they got a reward for their dominance as RB Salzburg’s Patson Daka opened the scoring in the 12th minute.
It, however, didn’t take long before Nigeria responded through Orji Okonkwo who tapped in a cross from close range in the 16th minute.
While second-half goals from Kelechi Nwakali and Taiwo Awoniyi completed their comeback win.
After this result from Imama Amapakabo’s boys, Nigeria have an edge to qualify for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Nigeria will face South Africa at Al Salam Stadium while Zambia takes on Cote d’Ivoire in a simultaneous kick-off on Friday, November 15.
